And he said, "Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say, 'I am he!' and, 'The time is near!' Do not go after them.
The time before elections is wild to say the least. Politicians make promises, declaring “I am the one.”
In the last few weeks, I have heard and read candidates on every side of the political spectrum claim to be someone they are not and promise things they are not going to do. And I have seen people led astray.
This passage from Luke makes me wonder if we are near the end, and if these are the false prophets the passage talks about.
It reminds me of what promises and whose promises I should believe. I am reminded of the one we are waiting for. And, therefore, I choose to act like one who believes.
Words make worlds. As you think about your commitment today, how do you discern whose words you believe?
As you imagine the day ahead, what commitment do you want to make around the words you say and the words you accept as true?
